[ LIFEHAZARD ] takes place in the late 2030's, where the U.S. government has been cultivating a political experiment for the last three-or-so-decades. To make room for its booming population, a vast city was created in the remains of a dying aquifer, and, thirty years prior to the start of the story, a rough-and-tumble trial population was introduced. But the government should've known better than to try and fill its population quota by drafting minor felons and the marginally insane. Just five years after its initiation, the project was aborted.
And the people living in the underground city have no idea.
Using all the subterfuge it possesses, the government is trying to dismantle the microculture that has emerged with sabotage; power failures, food shortages, etcetera. The subjects of the experiment are so busy fighting each other, few notice their circumstances--if they do notice, they blame their enemies. But there is at least one group that suspects that something is amiss...
